Terms of service

Accepting these terms
By installing the extension, creating an account, or using the site, you agree to these terms. If you are using OctoCheck for a company, you confirm you may agree on its behalf. You must be 18 or older.
Separate terms apply to the services we build on: Google or GitHub for sign-in, Stripe for payments, and the Chrome Web Store for the extension.
What OctoCheck is
OctoCheck is a Chrome extension that audits a web page and reports how ready it is to be read, trusted and cited by AI search engines.
Free. The in-browser audit is free, with no account and no limit on how many pages you scan.
Pro. A paid plan adds checks that cannot run in a browser, and lets you store reports with us and share them by link.
We add, change and remove checks as the field changes. If we discontinue something you rely on, we will say so.
Your account
You sign in with Google or GitHub. One account is for one person. Keep access to it secure, because anything done through it is treated as done by you.
What you are responsible for
The pages you scan. You decide what to point OctoCheck at, and that choice is yours, particularly for pages behind a login, internal sites, and anything covered by an agreement with someone else. By running a scan you confirm that doing so does not break any agreement or law that applies to you.
What you publish. A shared report is readable by anyone with the link and quotes passages from the page it audited. You decide what to make public. If someone contacts us about a published report, we may make it private or remove it, and we will tell you.
Please do not work around quotas or rate limits, open multiple accounts to get more of them, call our API from anything but the extension, automate the extension, reverse-engineer the service, resell it, or use it to put load on someone else's site.
Fair-use limits apply to saving reports, sending feedback, and the size of a page we will analyse.
The Pro plan
Pro is a paid subscription, billed monthly or yearly. Prices, what is included, and any add-on packs are shown on the pricing page.
Trial. The trial length is shown at checkout and needs a card. If you do not cancel before it ends, it becomes a paid subscription automatically. The trial includes a limited number of Pro scans. You can start the paid subscription before the trial ends; the first charge then happens that day.
Scans. Starting a Pro scan uses one credit, whatever the scan finds. Your plan includes a set number of credits per month, on the yearly plan too. The count resets each month and unused credits do not carry over. Cancelling a scan once it has started does not return the credit. Free scans and saving or sharing a report never use one.
Extra credits. We may offer packs of extra credits. If we do, credits bought that way do not expire, but can only be spent while a subscription is active.
Tax and price changes. Taxes are handled by Stripe and added where they apply. If we change prices, we will tell existing subscribers before it affects them.
Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel at any time. Pro keeps working to the end of the period you have paid for and is not renewed after that. If a payment fails, we keep Pro running briefly and try again before the plan lapses.
Refunds are at our discretion. Write to us and we will look at it.
When Pro ends you keep access to your saved reports and can read, download or delete them. New saves go to your browser instead.
Reports and content
Your pages are yours, and so are the reports about them. Saving a report lets us store it and show it back to you. Sharing one lets us serve it to anyone with the link, for as long as it stays shared.
OctoCheck itself belongs to us: the name, the software, the checks, and the words explaining them. If you send us feedback or a suggestion, we may act on it without owing you anything for it.
Results are estimates, not verdicts
OctoCheck reports what it saw when it looked at your page. That is not the same thing as the truth about your page.
Automated checks misread things. A page assembled by JavaScript can look different to our scanner than it does to you, and a slow response, a blocked resource or a firewall that treats us differently from a real crawler will all change what a check reports. Pro checks are written by language models, which can be confidently wrong.
Treat every finding as something to verify, not a fact to act on. Before you change anything that matters, check it against your own page, server or logs.
And the promise no tool can make: a good score does not mean an AI engine will cite you, and a poor one does not mean it will not. Whether an engine reads, trusts or quotes a page is decided by that engine, and none of them publish how.
Suspension
We may suspend or close an account that breaks section 4, that is used to harm someone else, or that we are required to act on. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you why first. If you think we got it wrong, write to us and a person will read it.
Warranties and liability
OctoCheck is provided as is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that its findings will be complete or correct. Section 8 explains why that would be a promise nobody could keep.
Every decision here is yours, and so is what follows from it: which page you scan, whether you turn Pro on, what you publish, and what you change on your site after reading a finding. We give you information; you decide what to do with it.
We are not liable for lost profit, traffic, rankings or citations, or for indirect or consequential loss. If we are ever found liable for something, that liability is limited to what you have paid us.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is material we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect, and the date at the top always reflects the current version. Continuing to use OctoCheck means you accept the new version.
If something goes wrong
Write to us first. Almost everything is settled that way, and we would rather hear about a problem than read about it somewhere else.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States. If part of them turns out not to hold, the rest still does. They are written in English, and the English version is the one that counts.
